ESN Breda Excursion

02/06/2012 - 09:00 - 22:30 Get ready for the very last excursion of the culture committee of this semester: the Breda Excursion!
You may not know this beautiful city, but it is located in the south of the Netherlands, and has a lot to offer. Breda has something for everyone: culture, sports, shopping, popular events… you name it! The atmosphere in this small but cosy city is relaxed and good.
Breda has a rich history. The name Breda derives from "brede Aa" ("wide Aa") and refers to the confluence of the rivers Mark and Aa. As a fortified city, the city was of strategic, military and political significance. Although a direct Fiefdom of the Holy Roman Emperor, the city obtained a municipal charter; the acquisition of Breda, through marriage, by the house of Nassau ensured that Breda would be at the center of political and social life in the Low Countries.
We will visit one of the main cultural highlights of the city: the so-called ‘Castle of Breda’. It is a castle in the city center of Breda. Since 1826 the Royal Military Academy is located in here, that’s why it isn’t freely accessible for public. But it will be for us!
We will also visit a museum, get some dinner at a restaurant, and we even get a city tour by one of your favorite board members!
